Who are the most active users on LinkedIn.com?

At the truManchester unconference last week I lead, together with Mark Williams, two 2 tracks about LinkedIn. During both tracks the usage and penetration (i.e. the percent of Internet users visiting the site) of LinkedIn was discussed. I knew that the Dutch are world champion in LinkedIn but it’s always nice to see how this compares to other countries.

Interestingly, comScore acquired the Dutch company Nedstat last week, both well-known players in the field of web analytics, and they looked into the LinkedIn.com figures and stats. Apparently because comScore employees noticed that their new Dutch colleagues were very active on LinkedIn. Or would that have to do with the takeover?

In any case, LinkedIn reaches 15.2% of all Internet users in the Netherlands and they spend about 21 minutes and watch an average of 64 pages in this professional business network (based on stats from July 2010). There are over 2 million Dutch profiles (2.7%) on a total of 76 million users worldwide.

LinkedIn finally got all the functionality of a Job Board, and more

Recruiters and Hiring Managers have a few options for advertising jobs on the LinkedIn network:

  1. Using status updates. Your direct connections will see this update on their homepage.
  2. Post jobs in LinkedIn groups you are member of.
  3. Promote jobs via the LinkedIn profile i.e. write in your profile headline or summary that you are looking for specific skills (interesting option for ongoing recruitment of specific skills). Also the applications Google Docs, Slideshare and WordPress are very suitable for this.
  4. Send an InMail message to your direct connections (maximum 200).
  5. Paid Job Postings, 195 US$, to get listed in the Jobs module where every member can search for jobs.

Half of Dutch professionals join LinkedIn: 2 Million Members

LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, today announced two million members in the Netherlands, putting the total of Dutch professionals now on the site at more than 50%. The Netherlands is the network’s most engaged market worldwide including more than 32.000 Dutch LinkedIn Groups. By joining groups, Dutch professionals are participating in interesting discussions, gaining insights and sharing knowledge with other LinkedIn members both at home and worldwide.

LinkedIn’s Amsterdam office is its first European office outside the UK and was opened in January 2010. Eugenie van Wiechen, country manager LinkedIn Netherlands commented: “We Dutch really get networking. A combination of non-hierarchical culture, strong international business links and high levels of internet penetration has made the Netherlands a strong European market for LinkedIn. At the opening of the Amsterdam office we said we would focus on bringing additional value to Dutch users. Seven months later we are making great progress. We’ve rolled out a live training program for users who are keen to get the most out of LinkedIn and are in constant contact with our members to seek their feedback on how to further improve our platform and services.”
