Congratulations of being part of a 100.000 members LinkedIn group! On January 26, 2008, the Recruitment Consultants and Staffing Professionals Group was created to provide a platform for Recruiters with quality contacts, jobs and discussions. It was not the first Recruitment/Recruiter group but soon after a few industry leaders, like Shally Steckerl, joined this group it grew to the second-largest Recruiter group on LinkedIn. Today it’s still one of the largest groups on LinkedIn, in top 60 of a total 1,300,000 groups.

Executives now challenging HR and Marketing for responsibility of the Employer Brand strategy

In an era of social media dominance where employer branding continues to develop around the world, HR and Marketing are now being challenged by Executives for control of the Employer Brand strategy in new survey findings from Employer Brand International. The global research study surveyed more than 1700 organizations worldwide.

The study found Executives are taking more responsibility for the employer brand strategy with a 13% increase over the past two years at the same time HR departments solely responsible for the strategy has declined by 12%. Interestingly, in Russia more Executives are responsible for the strategy than the HR department highlighting that leaders in emerging markets are taking a more strategic approach and aligning employer branding to organizational strategy compared to companies who were early adopters in the USA and UK.

Does the best time to be promoted vary around the world? LinkedIn used the data of millions of its international members and confirms that January is the most popular month for promotions. In the US, while January is the top month for promotions, the spread throughout the year is more uniform than the global average.

Recruiting leaders that ignore mobile should be waterboarded according to Dr. John Sullivan, a well-known thought leader in HR. Career sites are not mobile friendly but the way we consume information is going via the mobile web at a huge pace. Due to the explosion of the smartphone and tablet sales, mobile internet usage will be larger than fixed internet in 2013 [read more about this in our Future of Mobile Recruiting series]. In fact, 92% of of the Fortune 100 companies ingnore the mobile channel. In the top 35 US Firms only 4 Career Sites are mobile-friendly and 1 company offers a native mobile (career) app.

“The recruitment industry took 15 years to migrate from print media to digital media”, says Dave Martin who’s Head of Mobile and Product Strategy at BraveNewTalent. “Social media has kickstarted recruitment innovation and created a new focus on community based recruitment. But disappointingly the employers have failed to maximize on mobile web or mobile apps. Given the intrinsic partnership between social and mobile web, it is crucial for employers around the wold to recognise and engage with mobile”.

80% of all companies use Social Media to recruit

Is recruiting via social media effective? And how do you determine wether those efforts are succesful? That’s the question being asked as more and more businesses are investing in increasing amounts of social media recruiting.  With no standard means of measurement, there’s a wide variety of goals and metrics used to define the ROI of social strategies. Currently 64% of companies said they have succesfully hired via social media. Already 80.2% of companies are using Social Media to recruit and another 8.7% of companies are planning to begin this year (results of Jobvite survey, July 2011).
