Selection 2.0: The Social Interview Case Study

You are most likely using social media for recruiting. And, according to many surveys, you are probably also using it for pre-screening applicants. But are you also using it for the selection of candidates? Digital Advertising Agency R/GA wanted to try a new kind of job interview: The Social Interview. They asked summer internship candidates to allow them to post three questions to their Facebook wall—not for them to answer, but for their friends to answer.

Screening CVs with iPad becomes ‘social’ and enriches talent pools

Dutch product development Cureka! introduced for global recruitment market

Cureka! Is officially launched on August 7th in the Dutch and the  world’s first tool that enables recruiters and managers to screen resumes on the iPad and simultaneously enrich and classify CVs. By adding ‘(dis)likes’, ‘sticky notes’ and photos, CVs become more ‘social’.  High quality talent pools can be built with a touch on a screen. By making the screening of CVs an activity independent of the office, the recruitment process is shortened and recruiters and managers can on average spend one hour less per recruited candidate.Screening CVs with iPad becomes ‘social’ and enriches talent pools

Bad Idea: Companies creating Personal Profiles on LinkedIn

Lately I noticed a fast growing trend that companies are creating personal (user) profiles on LinkedIn and start connecting with people and joining groups. As an owner of a large Recruiter group on LinkedIn, Recruitment Consultants with over 64.000 members, I’ m getting 100+ requests per day to join. More and more of these requests are from companies (like NAME .COM) and not from a natural person. Last year I saw 1 out of 200+ requests like that, today it’s approximately 1 out of 50!

But don’t that. It’s a bad idea. I understand that you are trying to build a network around your company but this is not the way. First of all, LinkedIn is a PERSONAL and SOCIAL network and its members expect to connect with real people. People want to connect with people. For this reason it’s not allowed by LinkedIn to “Create a user profile for anyone other than a natural person” (see 10.B.5 of the User Agreement). So all the effort you are putting into it now is a waste of time.Bad Idea: Companies creating Personal Profiles on LinkedIn

Show, share and find workplaces

I recently wrote about the importance of work location and showing your workplace on your (career)site. Transparency is everywhere, except when it comes to workplaces. Because people spend a lot of time at work it’s important to find a nice workplace. And for this, you want to taste the workplace experience. But corporate websites and job vacancies just don’t deliver.

Meet Amsterdam based WOVOX.com. The Elevator Pitch of WOVOX is a Facebook, Youtube, Flickr, Match.com, and Wikipedia, sitting down in a bar, having drinks and a laugh, brainstorming about workplaces.

This website lets people show workplaces the way they really are through pictures, videos and reviews. It gives potential customers, partners and job seekers an authentic impression of the companies they’re interested in. Of course, it’s a free and open platform. Both companies and individuals can share their workplace.

Start your workday with LinkedIn Today

LinkedIn launched another new product last week: LinkedIn Today. LinkedIn Today delivers the day’s top news, tailored to you based on what your connections and industry peers are reading and sharing. According to Liz Reaves Walker from LinkedIn, “Staying on top of industry news is something we think matters for any professional whose success depends on being well informed.  With all the news websites, blogs, tweets and newsletters out there, staying in-the-know can be time consuming and it’s increasingly hard to figure out what matters most when reading news across multiple sources.” LinkedIn promises to deliver this now.
